Over the years, Hillary Clinton has constantly strived to create a better world for our children. The concern of children, women and families has been at the heart of her lifelong work.
Helping children has always been a major focus of Hillary Clinton’s public life. After she completed her studies at Yale Law School, Hillary moved to Arkansas. She joined the Rose Law Firm and following Bill Clinton’s appointment as governor of Arkansas, Hillary became First Lady of Arkansas. In this public position which she held for twelve years, she always made an effort to make a difference in the life of children and showed concern for the welfare of children around the world.
Among several important issues in Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign for 2008, the subject of various children’s matters is a major concern and point of interest.
Hillary believes in a reformation of the ‘No Child Left Behind Act’. Hillary has faith in the indication and assurance behind the original law and deems that reforming this Act would prove to be beneficial for children in the U.S.
As part of her presidential campaign, Hillary has prioritized the matter of encouraging and supporting excellent teachers including the issue of suitable salaries for qualified staff. Hillary also encourages the admission of early age youngsters to good quality education.
Among Hillary’s efforts to provide a safe environment for children, she believes in the protection of children against violence and undesirable sexual subject matter that is present in the media.
Among Hillary’s top priorities is ensuring the support, training and guidance of new parents with the aim of creating a safe and healthy environment for children. This environment should ideally be well geared towards the children’s development and education. This includes the promotion of programs such as Home Instruction for Parents of Pre-School Youngsters (HIPPY) that offers guidance for parents regarding the care of their children.
Hillary believes in the importance of the Family and Medical Leave Act which allows new parents time away from the work place without jeopardizing their jobs.
For decades, Hillary has worked towards adoption, in particular the adoption of children that have suffered abuse or neglect. During the period of time that Hillary was First Lady, she pushed legislation that enabled the adoption of greater numbers of children that were taken out of foster care.
In addition, Hillary has battled to abolish school fees, which in some places is unfortunately a factor that stops some children from going to school.
Also during the time that Hillary was First Lady, she took a part in building the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that today ensures health insurance that covers six million children. Hillary aims to continue to battle for the extension of health insurance so that more children may receive health care.
In short, Hillary places the care, health, welfare and education of children in an important position on her agenda, with the intention of ensuring that more children receive the attention, treatment and start in life that they deserve.
